Engineer(s) 

Candidate Profile

​

We are seeking engineer(s) of different grades to assist in the ongoing activities, including direct support in securing, performing and managing consultancy and research & development (R&D) projects. The location of successful candidates is flexible, but could be based in Y4 offices in Lisbon (Portugal). 

​

Y4 currently offers a range of services which include support to commercial R&D, engineering design, and technical due diligence. Working as part of the Y4 team, the successful applicant will be involved in a range of activities, reporting directly to a Project Manager.

​

As a guideline, it is envisaged that daily activities will include the use of CAD packages, hydrodynamic solvers and further specialist software in multiple projects related to wave-structure interaction problems, in the field of offshore renewable energy. Further activities may include the management and execution of several projects, including also business development support to an expanding client base.

​

The main responsibilities associated with the role can be summarised as follows:

  • Lead and/or support in design activities involving the creation of numerical models of offshore renewable energy converters (wave, tidal, offshore wind).

  • Direct engineering support to commercial and R&D projects.

  • Direct management support in selected projects, ensuring that projects are completed within timescale and budget.

  • Conduct business development activities, including representing the department at relevant events.

Essential Skills 

​

  • MEng or MSc (min 2:1) and/or PhD in relevant discipline, with a preference for Mechanical Engineering, Mathematics or Physics.

  • Previous experience in relevant commercial environment, for example consultancy, utility, project developer, technology developer.

  • Previous experience in wave and / or tidal energy technology/device development.

  • Competent user of CAD packages (SolidWorks, MultiSurf, Rhino) and hydrodynamic solvers (Nemoh, WAMIT, AQWA).

  • Good programming skills in high-level languages (Python, MATLAB, Simulink).

  • Good organisational skills and ability to work in a high-performance consultancy environment.

  • Fluency in English, including the ability to understand and write clear and accurate reports.

The successful applicant must also be willing to travel to several locations worldwide on an occasional basis, in particular to Client and Y4 office(s).

Desirable Skills 

​

  • Professional proficiently in other languages will also be considered advantageous.
